On the way visit Awantipura ruins, Saffron fields One of the most beautiful places on earth, the town of Pahalgam offers breath-taking views. One can just enjoy the town of Pahalgam trek to some of the most beautiful places on earth. Pahalgam is also the entry point for the famous Amarnath Cave, a holy site for Hindus.

What really is a hill station is a very colonial era name given to a town which is at a higher elevation such that people can go there to escape the heat of during summer months. Pahalgam is not a mere hill station. It’s a recreation resort. Its lime going into the lap of nature to do many things – one of the best that do nothing. You want to have a romantic trip with your beloved, want to get together with your family, and have what they call a quality family time. You want to do those little interesting things with the family and kinds, like take a pony ride, just picnic next to a beautiful river, just lie down under the sun next to your het with fresh breeze blowing and read a book or have a game of cards, go to cozy market and have a cup of coffee. The new resurrected Pahalgam is a little more commercialized, albeit the same beauty. You could take rides in a new children part or raft down the river Lidder. Golf is still there the Pahalgam club with its table tennis rooms, mini golf and cards room missing. Pahalgam is not a new place, its been very popular people from all over India and a lot of foreigners especially trekkers would really like to go there. Pahalgamdesn’t need to sell itself to many as such for all its credentials. But one question that is primary on every body’s mind when it come to Pahalgam is going there or going to Kashmir safe enough… militancy in Kashmir is on wane and in any case, militants have no enmity of Indians or tourists wherever they come from. There is a general perception that if any harm is caused to tourist and in the inflow decreased, it just hurts the common man where it hurts the most on the belly. And no insurgency can ever survive without the support from the local population. That plus there is a lot of armed forces all over Kashmir and in Pahalgam as well as it’s the center of activity around AnmarnathYatra hence always under focus. It does help to give a lot of sense of security thought in the beginning the scenes of loads and loads of army or policy raises some apprehensions.
In Pahalgam to explore the natural surroundings and afternoon drive back to Srinager.

Overnight: In Same House boat.

Meal plan: BBL or D.

DAY 04: Srinagar – Gulmarg - Srinagar( 170 Ks around 4 to 5 Hrs drive ).

After early breakfast at hotel drive to Gulmarg (2652 M ), discovered by the Kashmiri romantic poet in the 16th century who was inspired with its grassy slopes covered with wild flowers. In winter Gulmarg looks more beautiful due to heavy snow fall and truns into Ski resort. The Gondola Cable Car offers rides to the upland meadows of Kongdori and beyond to the top of Apharwat range to a height of 14000 ft for viewing the Himalayan Peaks in summer and for downhill skiing in winter.

Gulmarg was previously known as “Gaurimarg”, named after Lord Shiva’s consort Goddess Parvati, nicknamed “Gauri”. But in the 16th Century, the then ruler Sultan Yusuf Shah changed it into Gulmarg; meaning “Path of Roses”. The Mughals brought Roses along with them and cultivated many varieties in the long run.

The next Mughal Emperor Jehangir was very fond of the beauty of this valley. He had once collected 21 colours of flowers from its meadow. This habit appears in most of the pictures and carvings in the palaces. Out of all flowers, the Red Rose seems to be the favourite. Every subsequent ruler promoted their preferences uprooting the earlier plants. Today all varieties are loved, and not a single type is missing from Gulmarg. Though other towns like Pahalgam, Verinag boasts of roses also. During colonial days, British rulers were also mesmerized by with the natural beauty of Gulmarg and considered it as one of the summer resorts for the officers. A substantial number of international tourists throng the place before the upheaval takes place in the valley. But unrest situation left the Gulmarg Tourism in a shattered state. Fortunately, from last few years, relative peace is returning to the valley and so is the number of tourists. In Gulmarg once can boarding Gondola cable car system (the 08 minutes ropeway). Descend back to Gulmarg after an hour and later indulge in some horse-riding and then drive to back to Srinagar.
