The flight over the Himalayas and the landing in Leh is an adventure in itself and even when you are tired from your long journey, that experience will wake you right up. Our guide is already waiting for at the airport in Leh and will bring you to your guesthouse/Hotel. On the first day you can relax and only relax to better acclimatize to the high altitude. (It is a conscious decision not having planned any activities on the first day, it is crucial for your adaptation to the high altitude!) Overnight : Hotel Meals : BB Elevation : 3500 m
During follow the trail leading down the valley for two KM before diverting up, the ridge to the east leading to the Prinkiti la (3700 m). The ascent is gradual and it should not take much more than an hour to reach the pass from Lamayoru village. From the pass the trail enters a narrow gorge to the Shilakong valley. It is further two to three KM to the village and ancient monastery of Wonla. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 3200 m
From Wonla ( 3150 m ) reaching ahead to the village of Phanjila ( 3250 m ), situated at the entrance to the Hinju valley. The fields and the apricot orchards extend for two to three KM before the trail enters a series of narrow, dry gorges below Hinju( 3680 m ), the main village consists of about 15 houses, some with solar heating. There is a choice of campsite about two KM above the village suitable base for the Kunzeki la. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 3900 m
From camp there is a steady climb past a number of goat enclosures to the base of the pass the ascent to the pass is quite steep but is compensated by impressive views east towards an outer rim to the Zanskar range and the eastern Karakoram. From the Kunzeski la ( 4900 m ) there are views to the ladakh range. While to the east the storm range and the main ridges of the Zanskar range can be seen. The descent from the pass is quite steep over loose moraine to an ill- defined trail that leads past a series of Yak herders camps that are occupied during the summer months by village from the nearby village. From camp we gradually descend to the village of Sumdo Chanmo ( 4800 m ) there is a small monastery close to the village with some large stone statues of the Maitreya Buddha. The trail then winds down to the valley floor ( 4300 m ) that is covered in a thick canopy of willow trees and wild rose bushes. There is a river crossing before reaching a small side stream fed from the snow high peaks. There follows a small traverse across a side ridge to a delightful meadow. It is not a particularly arduous climb to the Dundunchan la ( 4800 m ). The trail winds past Yak herders camps where the villagers from chilling village graze their herds during the summer months on reaching the pass there are spectacular views north to the ladakh range; east across the Stok range and south to the Zanskar range wile the depths of the Zanskar valley appear way below . the route from the pass follows the contours around a high ridge for about two KM before commencing a long and gradual descent towards Chilling village. The trail leads to the south, with spectacular views down to the confluence of the Markha valley and the Zanskar river. It is also possible to view the upper Markha valley leading towards the Kongmaru la. from this point there follows a steep descent to Chilling village ( 3400 m ). An easy day with time to wander the village of Chilling which provides much of the copper handicrafts that are supplied for the Leh Bazaar. Just above the village we cross the newly constructed bridges over the Zanskar river before a short walk to the confluence of the Markha and Zanskar rivers. The tiny village of Skui ( 3300 m ) is a further four km up the Markha valley. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 3300 m
The trail gradually ascends the Markha Valley passing a few small settlements en route to Markha ( 3700 m ) the largest village in the valley. That afternoon we visit village and the gompa that has recently been renovated by funds from trekkers and Hemis monastery. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 3700 m
Our trail crosses the Markha river twice to reach the village of Umlung. A few km beyond the village the valley widens and the imposing peak of Kangyaze (6400m) can be appreciated before reaching Hankar ( 3980 m ), the highest village in the Markha Valley. From camp it is a gradual haul to the summit of the Zalung La ( 5190 m ). It is a windswept pass that affords impressive views of the peaks and jagged ridges of the Zanskar Range. From the pass it takes about three hours to reach a delightful grassy camp near to the abandoned encampment known as Tsorka (4200 m ). Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 4100 m
From Sorro we trek to the head of a nearby gorge. Anticipate a cold start to the day as this section necessitates two or three river crossings. We then enter a side gorge that we follow for three hours to the settlement of Dat. (4300 m). During the summer the settlement is practically deserted as most of the villagers are grazing their yaks and goats on remote grazing pastures. The shepherds are known as Chang pa and follow lifestyles similar to their counterparts in nearby western Tibet. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 4100 m
Evening spend time at the smaller salt lake at Tsokar with an opportunity to view the rare black necked crane. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 4500 m
before driving over two high passes and past Chang Pa encampments to reach the vast lake of Tso Morari On arrival we head to a secluded campsite before visiting the nearby village of Korzok, the headquarters of the Chang pa in this wild and remote region of Rupshu. Later we heading to the shores of Tso Morari where brahmini ducks and a host of birdlife nest close to the lake. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 4500 m
In the early morning we ascend the high ridges above Tsomoriri and gain panoramic views of the surrounding snow capped peaks that stretch to the horizon. After breakfast drive back to Leh. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 4500 m
