This itinerary explores the Ladakh region, starting with essential acclimatization in Leh. The journey includes visits to cultural sites around Leh, such as Stok Monastery and Shey, known for its former royal fortress. The trek itself ventures through various villages and landscapes, including Yangthang, Hemishukpachen, Temisgam, Lamayuru, Wangla, Hinju, Sumda Chenmo, and Dundunchen. The trek offers a mix of cultural immersion and scenic beauty, passing through valleys and high passes, and concludes with a return to Leh.

Itinerary

The flight over the Himalayas and the landing in Leh is an adventure in itself and even when you are tired from your long journey, that experience will wake you right up. Our guide is already waiting for at the airport in Leh and will bring you to your guesthouse/Hotel. On the first day you can relax and only relax to better acclimatize to the high altitude. (It is a conscious decision not having planned any activities on the first day, it is crucial for your adaptation to the high altitude!) Overnight : Hotel Meals : BB Elevation : 3500 m

Following acclimatization with Stock museum visit to see the jewels and royal finery and the former royal fortress Shey and its monastery. Back to Leh. Overnight : Hotel Meals :- BB Elevation : 3500 m

Transfer by road to Taktok. Picnic on the spot then 2/3 hour walk to the villages to join Chemre.We continue to Hemis is the largest monastery in Ladakh spiritually. It groups under the authority of more than 500 monks. Built in 1605, its location has preserved the looting. Back to Leh. Overnight : Hotel Meals :- BB Elevation : 3500 m

We leave Leh to join Likir (1:30), the starting point of our small traveling trek. We gradually ascend and cross two small passes before reaching Yangtang, a pretty village of about twenty houses. We settle the bivouac nearby. 400 m - 300 m Number of hours walk: 3-4 hrs. Overnight : Guest House Meals : BLD Elevation : 3640 m

We start the day by a flat half-hour and then gradual climb to the Col de Sarmathangla (3880 m). Then we have a small descent to Hemis Shukpachen. The village takes its name from juniper forests which serve to fumigation offerings to local deities. On the way many small chortens remind us that we are in a Buddhist country, where religion is part of everyday life ladhaki .. After drinking tea with our guests of the day (and Angchok Tsering), we will visit the small monastery, where we have a view overlooking the village. This is an opportunity to meet the locals. We walk the first hour on flat and after a short descent, we climb to the Col de Mebtak to 3830 m. Then descent to Ang and Temisgam. The trail is carved into the rock ocher, pink and purple (ophiolite) reminding us that the Himalayas appeared there are some fifty million years on the waters of the Sea of Tethys. After tea, we will make a small tour of the village. Camp nearby 400 m - 700 m - Number of hours walk: 4 – 5hrs. Overnight : Guest House Meals : BLD Elevation : 3230 m

After breakfast, we visit the monastery of Temisgam from where we can enjoy a panoramic view of the snowy peaks to the north of the Indus valley. Then we go by vehicle to reach Lamayuru by a beautiful winding road. Lunch with our hosts, then visit the Lamayuru monastery (eleventh century) which has three important temples perched on a rock overlooking the village. Numerous hiking opportunities around the village of Lamayuru. - Number of hours of walking: 1hrs. Overnight : Hotel Meals : BLD Elevation : 3500 m

This is the most beautiful day of hiking in terms of scenery. The color of the rocks changes depending on daylight and contrasts with the green of the village of Lamayuru. We climb up Prinki La pass (3700 m). After a good rest we start our descent to Wangla. Early in the evening we visit the monastery of Rinchen Zangpo perched on a hill overlooking the village of Wangla. + 350 M -550 m Number of hours walk: 4hrs. We head to the village of Phanjila ( 3250 m ), situated at the entrance to the Hinju valley. The fields and the apricot orchards extend for two to three KM before the trail enters a series of narrow, dry gorges below Hinju village ( 3680 m ), the main village consists of about 15 houses, some with solar heating. Overnight :- Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 4100 m

From camp there is a steady climb past a number of goat enclosures to the base of the pass the ascent to the pass is quite steep but is compensated by impressive views east towards an outer rim to the Zanskar range and the eastern Karakoram. From the Kunzeski la ( 4900 m ) there are views to the Ladakh range. While to the east the stom range and the main ridges of the Zanskar range can be seen. The descent from the pass is quite steep over loose moraine to an ill- defined trail that leads past a series of Yok herder’s camps that are occupied during the summer months by village from the nearby village and gradually descend to the village of Sumdo Chanmo. There is a small monastery close to the village with some large stone statues of the Maitreya Buddha. Overnight : Camp Meals : BLD Elevation : 3800 m

We walk along the river, rocky needles sharp rise in the sky ... and then we see a little greenery, a few trees and fields of barley, the village of Sumda Chenmo is near. After breakfast visit monastery and made a lunch break at the river we start the climb of Dundunchen . Overnight : Camp Meals : BB Elevation : 4200 m

Mounted without difficulty as to progressive cervical Dundunchen ( 4700 m). Cervical we see the path The Konzke since , it is a fascinating spectacle of chaotic mix of colorful rocks , gray shale and serpentine green , ocher , brown and red ... the surrounding mountains. We then begin a long descent to the Zanskar river gorges to the beautiful village of Chilling (3200 m) and drive back to Leh. Overnight : Hotel Meals : BB Elevation : 3500 m
